Degree: Fashion Communication

Life // What does a Fashion communication and promotions student do?

Before I went to university, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I didn't know how many courses were out there to choose from, what they all had to offer, and which was the best place to go for them. I'm not going to lie, although I have been interested in fashion for a while, I had no idea I wanted to do it as a career until I found this course. I thought I would share the wonders of this course with you all, and maybe give someone some insight if they were looking to go into fashion but didn't know what.

I study this course at Huddersfield Uni which is a lovely little place, I have met the nicest people and it isn't true at all that all fashion students are bitchy. The course itself covers so many different areas, from styling, PR, Marketing, Trend forecasting, Photo shoot planning, connecting with creatives, fashion journalism and so on. From coming in knowing hardly any industry skills in the first year, I am now in the third year, feeling stressed (deadlines) but ready to get a 'real job' (scary).

This course prepares you for the real world, the world in industry. It lets you explore so many areas of fashion and helps you decide what you want to be and do. Don't get me wrong, I don't think you know what you want to do until you've been out there and tried it, but for me this is a great stepping stone.

Planning Ahead: Paris

I am so excited, I am off to Paris on Friday for the first time ever and what better way to visit the city of Romance than with my boyfriend. I have been so ridiculously busy with uni lately as I am in my final year So I was more than happy to grab a chance to write a post about my outfit plans for my weekend away.

The day of travelling. I think Opting for a cosy jumper, leggings and boots is the best way for a travel day. It means that as soon as we arrive and have dropped off our luggage we can head off exploring the Parisian streets.

Even though it is autumn I am trying to incorporate some (and I mean, some) colour into my outfits. I've decided on my stunning long sleeved floral playsuit, with open heel boots and topped off with my cosy lilac coat.

The third and final day in Paris, oh look, i've slipped back into monochrome life. A striped jumper is a must when you're visiting Paris isn't it? Teamed with black jeans, boots and a floppy hat I will be ready to wander around at all the wonders Paris has to offer.

Event: #AXPressDayAW14

Yesterday me and my friend, Sarah attended the press day for AX Paris. The day was a chance for bloggers/vloggers/instagrammers to get together and take a peek at the new AW14 collection. I was dying to try out 'home sweet home' in Manchester's Northern Quarter so to start of the day we went for some lunch there, which by the way, is so delicious and the decor is amazing!
Even though I live in Manchester I am forever getting lost so after walking around for a while and using maps on my phone (nightmare) we arrived at the Black Dog Ball Room all ready for the AX Paris event. It was so lovely seeing the girls I worked with when I did my internship and as soon as we walked in we were offered complimentary drinks. As I opted for a coke (driving), Sarah had a yummy looking cocktail and we sat with a  lovely talented lady and had henna done.
The clothes at the event were beautiful and got me so excited for the A/W seasons. There were so many lovely faces there and it was great to finally meet some bloggers who's blogs I have been following for a long while. I had a lovely chat with Laura (the pixie cut) who was as lovely in person as she in pictures. With a Photo Booth in one corner (must have) and an Instagram picture printer in another (how amazing) it is safe to say us bloggers were in our element.
Sadly I had to leave early to attend work and I was so sad I was still so full from dinner when they brought out lovely little burgers and pizza and wait for it... sweet potato fries. I couldn't even face eating a cupcake! Nether the less they still all looked delicious.

To top it off as we left we were handed a packed goody bag full of amazing treats including: a full sized Lee Stafford 'Frizz Off', Full bottle of NKD SKN fake tan, eyelashes from the Vintage cosmetic company, A make-up brush from Nanshy, Anatomicals face mask, Buddy scrub body scrub, Zoeva eye liner, Batiste plumping powder, Lipgloss from MeMeMe, Gelly nail paint from Barry M, Lip butter from Collection and not forgetting yummy treats from Tea pig, Pop chips, Jelly Belly and Vita Coco.

Thank you to AX Paris for a wonderful event!

Well isn't this year going ridiculously fast? It is the 1st September 2014 and dare I say it, Christmas is just around the corner. To celebrate the new month and the fact I still have no money, I thought I would do a 'what I really want but can't afford' wish list.

Untitled #5

I have been absolutely loving basic items than you can dress up and down. My aim is to have my wardrobe filled with classic staples rather than buying everything I like (and will probably only wear once). I think it is time to step away from bargains and go for good quality items I can wear each year. (Ok, maybe a few bargains here and there)

p.s I have been given a 10% discount code to use at Style Heist for all my lovely followers to use:

If you read my previous blog post you will have seen my purchases I had been making from the pull and bear sale. I thought it would be nice if I should you one of the ways I have been styling them, so here it is my 'what I am wearing: pull and bear edition'

This skirt is so so comfy to wear and usually I would never go for a style like this, but I quite like it. I've kept this outfit monochrome by teaming it with a Forever 21 simple white crop. I am wearing thee boots with everything at the minute I am so obsessed with them, so obviously I had to wear this for this mono number.

I thought this looked simple but effective? Or am I completely delusional? Either way I am going to continue to wear it. In other news it is my last day at my placement tomorrow then I am on to my new one!

The Life of a Little Black Dress Intern

Sorry for being sparse on the blogging front, I have recently started a month placement at the fashion company Little Black Dress and I am so so busy it is unreal.

I am currently in my third week of the internship and well, so far so good. I applied for the internship by basically ringing up and asking if there were any positions available. I sometimes thing a phone call is a bit more personal and helps get you noticed more rather than constant emails. After sending over my CV I was offered a position of an e:commerce internship to start ASAP.

When people say all you do in internships is make cups of tea- they are wrong, well in this case they are.
My daily duties include updating stock, uploading new products to the website, writing product description, minor editing on product shots, Tumblr uploadin' and doing bits of research here and there for the rest of the team.

Everyone here is so so lovely, I can't believe I am halfway through already. To kinda link with this post I thought I would show you some of the dresses I've been lusting after whilst working here.
